Two Needles Reported In Halloween Candy

On November 4th, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office received information that a county resident found two (2) sewing needles in Halloween candy from trick or treating on Monday night, October 31st.

A Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in to this matter, speaking with the complainant about the suspect candy, which turned out to be a “dum-dums” sucker. The sucker was said to have a sewing needle stuck within the wrapper of the sucker.  It was also reported that a second sewing needle was found within the Halloween candy that was collected that night.

Upon asking a complainant where she and her children visited, she advised the Deputy that she visited the Scottsburg Square and a few other locations.

No other reports similar to this were taken by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsburg Police or the Austin Police.

Sheriff McClain is asking parents to inspect all Halloween candy for any foreign objects. And, if anything is found, to report the findings to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office also maintains several options for reporting criminal activity anonymously including the department’s website, Facebook page, and a tip line.
