On January 21, 2016, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle. In doing so the vehicle refused to stop resulting in a short pursuit. As the vehicle finally came to a stop deputies conducted a felony stop and took Patrick A. Hirstein into custody. Deputies then utilized the assistance of the Department's K-9 handler and his Narcotic Detection Canine, Arina. Arina conducted an exterior sniff of the suspect vehicle for the possible presence of narcotic odor. Upon conducting the exterior sniff of the vehicle, Arina gave a positive indication to the possible presence of narcotic odor in or on the vehicle. Subsequent to Arina’s indication, a search of the vehicle was conducted which led to the discovery of over 40 grams of suspected methamphetamine, over 8 grams of suspected heroin, numerous controlled substances listed in schedule II and IV, digital scales and various pieces of paraphernalia. Hirstein was arrested and searched on scene resulting in the discovery of a substantial amount of US Currency. Hirstein was transported to the Scott County Security Center where he was booked and is currently being held.
