Gregory L. Cross Cheron G. Bowman
December 9, 2014: Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cheron G. Bowman and Gregory L. Scott, during a traffic stop that was conducted near Mc Clain Avenue and North Fifth Street in Scottsburg.
During the investigation, Deputy Shawn Mayer obtained information from both occupants within the vehicle, and spoke with them about the inconsistencies with the vehicle registration and Bowman’s Drivers License.
While conducting the traffic stop and speaking with Bowman and Scott, Deputy Mayer became suspicious of the two based on their accounts of daily activities prior to his stop. Deputy Mayer then radioed for Deputy Jac Sanders to assist him and began issuing warning citations for the violations(s).
Moments later Deputy Jac Sanders arrived on scene and Deputy Mayer retrieved his narcotic detection canine from his commission to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle, for the possible presence of narcotics.
Upon conducting an exterior sniff of the vehicle, his K-9, Arina, indicated to the possible presence of narcotics within the 2001 Dodge Caravan on Driver’s door and sliding door seam, and showed an unusually strong interest in the passenger’s front door, which was on the side Scott was sitting.
Once the sniff of the vehicle was finished a pat down of Scott’s person was conducted by Deputy Sanders. He then observed a plastic baggie sticking from Scott’s jacket pocket which yielded a small amount of Marijuana. Both subjects were handcuffed and searched incident to arrest whereby over 10 grams of Methamphetamine in Rock form, a hypodermic needle, spoon and digital scales were located on Scott and (1) Viagra 100mg pill was located in a cigarette pack on Bowman’s person. A hand search of the vehicle and other personal property incident to arrest resulted in the discovery of more Methamphetamine, Marijuana, four types of pills classified as Legend drugs and Schedule IV controlled substances and a handgun.
Subsequently, Bowman and Scott were transported to the Scott County Security Center, Scott County, Indiana, for processing. This search resulted in the discovery of additional Methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and U.S. Currency.
